Not anymore, Dell and EMC broke up a while ago.

The store size should not have much effect on backup speed. Personally, I'd make a new store every 200GB or so.

And unless I'm mistaken, it's against the EULA to use it in a corporate environment.

If you have both user ad device CALS, you set the host to per user, and track everything manually. You do not need to set up two hosts.

Same myths as the other person I responded to. You can use both user and device simultaneously, and no matter what version of SBS, you can add other domain controllers without any problems.

Just FYI, is you disable the SBCORE service, that'll prevent SBS from shutting down.

Those stories are not normal. I've done a good 5 MS audits, and they were walks in the park.

It's changed significantly since then. The per seat model is no longer used.

There's no problem upgrading away from SBS, but unless you're running it now, it's not the right product for you.

Define large. What's your WAN connection speed and type.

You're mostly right, but have a few myths in there. 1) you can mix per user and per device with no issue 2) SBS can always have other member servers. There can just be no trusts, and it has to be the only SBS server in the domain.

Need BDR advice by proudcanadianehin sysadmin

[–]DoormattyTrade of all Jacks 2 points3 points ago

Make your own. It's what I did.

Use a HP Microserver, Windows Foundation, and Appassure.

It comes in under the price of the BDR, with all the functionality.

Agent can be deployed by any means you want - it's an MSI installer.

At my last job, we used it to support our clients (We were an MSP). You license per install, so you'd only need 42 agents (since you have to install them, so they can't go on the headless servers).

We bought 1500 agents, and I think it was ~$15,000 over 3 years or something like that.

It's the best management system I've ever used - and that's after using N-Able, Level Platforms, Kaseya, Nagios, Spiceworks and Autotask.

It may not be pretty, but it's damn powerful.

Migration from Exchange 2003 to 2010. What are my client side options? by iamadogforrealin sysadmin

[–]DoormattyTrade of all Jacks 1 point2 points ago

Outlook 2003 is still fine, as long as both servers are online the first time the clients boot up. I've done multiple Exchange 2003 -> 2010 migrations with all Outlook 2003 clients, and they're fine - there's nothing you need to do, everything will come across.

And no, activesync devices will not need to be reattached. 90% of them will just seamlessly sync over.

Honestly, without malice...your attitude is the issue here. If you don't want to understand/grok SNMP, you're going to run into trouble further down the line. Sit down with SNMP/OIDs/MIBs, and get it all working. You'll be much happier when you do.

Demoting a DC question by shamusmcnastyin sysadmin

[–]DoormattyTrade of all Jacks 1 point2 points ago

I'm curious as to why you feel this is necessary to do after a successful demote. (Honestly curious)

From the link:

this procedure is required only for Active Directory domain controllers that were not successfully demoted using Dcpromo.
