Need help selecting amp for new (turntable) system.. by deniall83in audiophile

[–]Freezerburn 1 point2 points ago

I love these for powering my hd650 http://www.yuking09.com/339.asp It's the same guys that designed darkvoice amps. The 339 sounds so good it's lik di if you cry every time(joke). Was worth the cash for me and is in your budget range. They also have fantastic support and followup if you have any problems.

Polk RT2000i pair + CS1000p worth $600? by agile_potatoin audiophile

[–]Freezerburn 0 points1 point ago

I'd have to hear them to decided if 600 is worth it. I have the Monitor II 60 and recently upgraded to Magnepan MMG and Center channel on the way. Maggies cost about 600 and output sound quality on level with speakers in the $3,000 range. The model polk that I had was actually very nice, I really can't complain too much about them for the cost. Hooked up to an Adcom amp and properly positioned in a acoustically treated room they sounded Fantastic.

I suggest you audition those speakers and the maggies for that price range. Of course you won't have a center channel, but I haven't been missing mine too much. I have a Polk cs2 but disconnected it cause they don't match the magnepan. I'm not hurting for the center at the moment. Also you need an amp/rec that can push 4ohm load. If you don't have that then I don't think you would power these particular polks properly anyhow. Look for a local dealer of magnepan MMG from the website and see if they have a pair you can hear.

Starting from scratch. We want a designated music streaming laptop/notebook with wireless speakers for our home. What products do you suggest? by StumbleBeesin audiophile

[–]Freezerburn 1 point2 points ago

Maybe someone does it right, but I've yet to see a good wireless speaker setup. If you want to be audiophile about it I'd consider a Receiver with multi zones and maybe DLNA support to play the audio files. You'll need to run wire, but I'd never suggest using wireless speakers. If a set of wireless speakers exist that I'd suggest I highly doubt they will be inexpensive.

My m50's hurt my jaw hinge after ~1 hour of wearing. What can I do to loosen the clamp? I've heard of people just stretching them but whats the safest way to go about this? by Supercyndroin headphones

[–]Freezerburn 0 points1 point ago

well sounds like mod time.

DT250 velours

Shure SRH840 pads

of course these will change the sound but some people say for the better. Of course the pads aren't designed for the m50 so you might get a little diy to attach them to the headphones.

Need help! by Ravyn82in hometheater

[–]Freezerburn 1 point2 points ago

I'd shoot for Onkyo and Denon. I started with an onkyo htib and eventually upgraded speakers then receiver so I could external amp. I say put it together from scratch.

1) Go to each manufacture site and look at the models and learn about them. Yeah this takes time.

2) Buy speaker cables, HDMI cables etc from monoprice

3) Look for some Polk, Klipsch, B&W, Paradigm, home theater speakers on craigslist. You don't really need 7.1, 5.1 works very well. plenty of people selling speakers on craigslist. Polk monitor II 60 or better for front. if your local craigslist sucks then newegg.com has monthly sales on polk.

slap it all together and you're done. I don't know your budget but I'd say a good starting pricepoint might be around $600ish give or take.

[–]Freezerburn -1 points0 points ago

I don't think you can stretch them out very much. Non cheap answer, I've got some Sen HD650 that only put on as much pressure as needed, but it needs an amp to drive it properly. Just saying I could wear it all day. My m50 I take breaks with it at work. HD650 is home. Might not be what you're looking for, just telling you what I do.

how do i get line out from my computer? by HWhoodwinkin audiophile

[–]Freezerburn 0 points1 point ago

I just use a HRT Music Streamer II +, it has RCA line out and goes into my tube amp, this bypasses any sound card amps etc by USB. HD650 here and la figaro 339 amp. far as disabling volume control and just sending signal I think ASIO4ALL works for this.

Some questions about the PS3 for blu-ray and audio codecs for 5.1 by jaguarphdin audiophile

[–]Freezerburn 0 points1 point ago

Alright just want to say up front I'm speaking out my ass and hoping I'm right. with PCM the playstation does the decoding and sends it out right to each channel and then to speakers when sending DTS to the receiver it processes the mix and if you have any room corrections etc on it processes with that information so I think extra stuff in between. Which should you be using I guess depends on speaker setup etc. If you have accousticly treated your room and have your speakers in optimal positions maybe PCM would be best then with the Dolby processing it works on the sound according to preferences. I'm just guessing so maybe someone could set me right cause that's just a guess. Maybe we should think about how well the ps3 does decoding? OK I'm confused as much if not more than you now. :D Where's my scotch?

Walker Proscenium Black Diamond III Turntable ($90k) by Golisten2LennyWhitein audiophile

[–]Freezerburn 0 points1 point ago

wow, I'm impressed. I consider myself a technical person but this might be over my head. Need to spend some extra time reading over how he did this and made the motor get proper speed.

Edit: Just started checking out the other projects on his site. This guy looks like he has lots of fun with DIY audio projects.

Can't use the Xonar DG, PCIe alternatives? by TheThirdBlackGuyin audiophile

[–]Freezerburn 0 points1 point ago

Well one solution for me was to HDMI out of my computer into my Onkyo TX-NR709 then amp then speakers.

My headphone solution was a HRT Music Streamer II + for my headphone setup going to amp then headphones.

I had a Xonar card once, but my computer was throwing signals into the audio. I decided to get an external DAC which solved that problem.

Anyone know a cheaper turntable with similar style as this? I think it looks fantastic, I've always been a little interested in turn tables that separate the motor in such a way.

I picked up a 12 from a guy on craigslist, he was getting a divorce. SCORE!

Just got a pair of Magnepan 3.3/R's, NAD 3020 amplifier, and Monitor Series Preamp 1000 all for $250. Halp. by m1lgramin audiophile

[–]Freezerburn 0 points1 point ago

The onkyo doesn't push the speaker, it's only providing line signal from the pre-outs to the Adcom amplifier. That Adcom has a massive transformer and works well on the 4 ohm load. My onkyo does show ability to do 4 ohm in the menu but I'm sure it would be stressing to produce it.

rythmik has some good subs, slightly over your budget but if you get get them shipped for cheap they might be worth it.

If you somehow get more money then sunfire makes great subs as well.
