Let's weigh in - what's your favorite landscape/biosphere/environment to go Camping and/or Hiking in and why? by lightningfriesin CampingandHiking

[–]castufariIT Manager 1 point2 points ago

Yeah. I hike in an area (Bent Creek) where there are a lot of these. One one hike I walk a good mile through them. Even when not blooming they're so cool. When in bloom they're something to see.

Any advice on an "end of the world" truck? by lortnocflesin 4x4

[–]castufariIT Manager 1 point2 points ago

I'm with you on this. Old 'burbs are bombproof. Lots of room for your gear and they'll go anyway. No need for power anything, 4x55 AC (4 windows down, 55mph) and a big old gas tank. Might not be the perfect rock climber but theyll get you away from the masses.

There is more to IF than moving meals a little Read up on it, many do it 16/8 - fast for 16, eat for 8.

According to her, yes. All you've heard is her side of the story.

My issue here is that she shouldn't be talking poorly about this guy to those outside of that company. If there are issues then they need to be handled internally.

I live in the mountains of NC. My favorite hikes are through rhododendron forests. At certain altitudes you'll hit them, bands where the entire area is rhodo. They have that rain forest feel but cool and damp regardless of the outside temp.

We can transfer them to another state agency but it's a pain.

The schools....don't even get me started on them. They can't spend it enough here and still scream about being broke.

I think I'm going to load ESXi and use it for Fog and a specialty VM that I could use for one of my staff.

That seems low....I have several of these in a rack and they're pigs compared to some of the new options. But, they're cheap. 150 isn't bad, shipping will bump that up quickly.

I inherited this small company lan and the sonic wall went down today. by QBVIIin sysadmin

[–]castufariIT Manager 2 points3 points ago

If you had a year....then start setting some time aside to document all of this stuff. Pick a day then just start documenting sites.

I inherited a mess, too. While everything was documented it was documented on a yellow legal pad in pencil. When a change was made the guy would erase the original and write over it. This pad rode around in either his laptop bag or the floorboard of his car and was in horrendous shape. I asked him why he didn't keep it electronically - "What if the network fails". Dude, you could have it stored in a couple of places or in email. But alas, that didn't happen. I went around and documented everything. Now I have a spreadsheet that contains indepth info on all of my sites. Everything is on there. Info on the routers, switches, printers, etc. I keep copie sin my box.net account.

I test backups monthly. We have to sign off on that stuff, too. BCP is ok, if something happens in this office people can work remotely, it's easy for me to relocate quickly, I've done it before.

Our sheet was our ticketing system. No one would use the ticketing system as it was easier to call me. I tried having people go to their supervisors if they had problems, that cratered as most of the supervisors knew less than the staff they supervised. It was a no-win situation. Where I'm at now they want us to use a ticketing system but it's a pain to use for the client and technician. For staff they use the "Well, if the internet doesn't work we can't access it" excuse but those are so rare (1 out of my 17 sites has gone down this eyar, and that was in a horrible storm).

My take on politics is to not get too involved. Be aware of what's going on but stay out of stuff that isn't related to IT. I'm not a venting board for staff and they know it. Unhappy? Either fix it or leave. I see too many people get involved in the political BS and get chewed up and spit out. It's also stress I don't need.

It wasn't that hard....it took minutes to create. Date/Time/User/Need/Issue/Resolution. Most of the time we left need out of there. Finish stuff up then just hide it all.

They seem like they need to get a handle on where their time is going. If they're that busy then they're either not working efficiently or they're hugely understaffed. When I made it known that I logged all calls and would report that info back to management that got everyone's attention. Some callers, who would call about BS stuff and seemed to sabotage any resolution we had, stopped calling. None work related calls ceased too.

One More Task

This one has always been a huge problem for me. That and feeling like I can't leave until everything is wrapped up. Woke up today, opened the laptop up to play a game and say my to do list for when I return to work. It was very hard not to sit down and take care of all that stuff immediately.

Great post, btw.

Some Genuine Keto doubts I need cleared. by newtoketo2in keto

[–]castufariIT Manager 1 point2 points ago

I'd reread the FAQ, as many of these have been answered already.

1) Keto strips will work for this, you can buy them online for 7.00 for 50. I use them once in a while, not daily. You can cut them up the middle to get more out of the container.

2) There is no tolerance. I've seen posts were people say they are keto then gouge on cake and junk and insist that they never left it. You can avoid these temptations if you want to. If I'm somewhere that has stuff I know I can't eat I'll have a glass of water, coffee with cream or snacks that are keto friendly, like cheese and nuts. If you have to have something then realize you can kick yourself out of it.

3) Increase your intake. Cutting back or not eating can cause you to stop losing weight. If you're puking it out...why? Are you feeling bad about it? If so, maybe you need to talk to a health professional.

I went to one and the manager said that the only patties they had were already on a bun. He then asked me to pull forward and they'd cook one up for me. It was wrapped in a huge mound of lettuce and was really really good.

I went to another where they had no idea WTF it was. :\I just fed the bun to some pigeons then left.
