I'm an over worked under paid tech geek being asked to setup more then I think I can handle. Help.... by damgood85in sysadmin

[–]hacktheory 3 points4 points ago

Good luck, childontkill has some good links but this kind of stuff can really....REALLY suck.. I highly suggest using something like clonezilla to take images of every system you "touch" before starting. At least this way you can revert if there are issues.... Ideally you should try using something like virtualbox to test your setup.

Again! I wish you luck ;)

Sketchup or similar app for android tablet? by pojodojoyou know the nazis made jews wear flairin DIY

[–]hacktheory 0 points1 point ago

Ah, With a dock/keyboard it makes a lot more sense.

Im not sure about anything that will do what your looking for.. Sadly the only way I can think of doing this is VERY hacky and involves using something like "Spice" or "VNC" to actually run sketchup on an desktop computer then connect over the network.

I will note.. This is not the way you would probably want to use it ;)

Question: Bug Bomb before moving in? by hacktheoryin homeowners

My thoughts exactly ;) I figure while the place is empty its easiest to do stuff like this.

Thanks for the input. Ive started reading up on it more and this seems correct. Have you ever done stuff with a "spray" that you just go all over and spray into cracks?

So far this looks like the main suggestion.

[–]hacktheory 0 points1 point ago

Well, I do agree that sketchup is awesome. I use it for woodworking projects and other random stuff. I just cannot see it being any good on a tablet. Then again, like most I tend to see tablets as limited purpose devices.

If you had a very large touch interface I could see that being more useful for stuff like navigation around an object.

It just seems that this sort of stuff is better for photoshop or drawing rather than accurate complex designs (that wont take you 10 times longer than on a desktop computer).

Good Luck!

Hey DIYers, I made a lamp out of a Keg, should I go with a lampshade or a globe? Pictures of both in the album. by monocyclein DIY

Awesome! I would love to make something similar myself.. Please do post back or update if you do something like this.

Good Luck!

2 months of work, and lots of bargain hunting, but well worth it, completely finished bathroom by FalconPUNNCHin DIY

[–]hacktheory 1 point2 points ago

Well done.

Im looking at buying this summer and the place needs a new bathroom. You inspired me to realize that the "small" bathroom we will have can be used very efficiently and can yield a brilliant result.

Thanks again!

I really dont mean to be... Mean.. But how do you ever expect to do such work on a tablet? Really I am just Curious. Im a Linux admin that like to make things do what they should not.. Using Sketch up for some wood working projects I just cannot see using a tool like this on a tablet... Ever.

I like the shade... But I suggest doing it in Red!

[edit] Really just not sure... The shade looks so much better. I just needs "something" Maybe a different type of shade would do much better. Im thinking some sort of stained glass? I would look for something similar to this: http://www.springhousecandles.com/shades_candle_warmer_lamp.html

Flea markets are usually good for finding parts like this off of otherwise old/crappy hardware ;)

I'll have to fix a PS3, any experts? by MMRLRPGin DIY

[–]hacktheory 0 points1 point ago

Ive done something similar but what i did was stripped everything down to just the motherboard. Heated an oven to (i think) 475 and suspended it off a cooking pan with long screws and bolts. Left for about 8-10 minutes. Pull it out and set it level on a table, let it cool for ~30 minutes. Put everything back together and its still working today (its been about a year).

edit: Only do something like this if you know what your doing. Easy to damage stuff and really easy to hurt yourself!

Anyone interested in a mentor community? by hacktheoryin Homebrewing

Ive got a few mock ups on my home system just to play with the idea. As of yet there is nothing pretty enough to show yet ;)

Glad to see there is some interest. All of these are good ideas. I was thinking about making it a website on its own just so it could have other useful tools built in.

Examples: Recipe book, Brew Day schedule, Notes on SG and date/times..etc. I realize that there are a lot of places that already do this but few seem to have a really "standard" way for people to ask someone with more experience in the area that wants to share their knowledge.
