3 Rules for Launching A Business Startup On The Side (aka Moonlighting) by thegamestartupin startups

I DM'd you about an idea I have for doing brokered game servers with OpenStack. Holler if you have time!

Neil, one quick way to capture decent audio is to wear your iPhone headset with the microphone earbud in one ear. Launch the voice memo app on your phone and then push the headset play button when you are ready to capture audio.

To stitch the audio into the video, use something like screenflow. By clapping three times right before you start talking you will get spikes in the audio stream which you can use to visually align the audio (and video) tracks in the project. Mute the camera's audio and you end up with a nice sounding video. Screenflow also provides some background noise suppression.

Great job. Keep it up!

iPhone's GPS Caught my GF Cheating OR Tech Malfunction: What's more likely? (xpost from /r/iphone) by lbtinscrubsin relationships

[–]kordless 1 point2 points ago

They live together. I'm having a hard time trying to see how you can be branded a stalker when you live with or are married to to someone, especially if all you are trying to do is determine the current state of the relationship.

She may find this particular behavior unwanted, but if they live together, he has some basic rights to know things - like where she is and what's she's doing with someone else.

Now if she left him and he kept it up, it'd be another matter entirely.

Bipolar and like smarts and stuff by [deleted]in BipolarReddit

[–]kordless 1 point2 points ago

My doc said that it is likely because I am smart that I was able to cope with my condition early on. I think I am probably Cyclothymic, which is a non-depressive form of Bipolar II. I'd like to think it made me smart, but the fact is the scientific community has no collaborating evidence to back my assumption.

If you were to try to argue that a higher percentage of smart people were afflicted, you might take the tact of stating that smarter people deal with the condition better, which then lowers diagnose rates, and subsequently the percentage detected in that population to what would appear to be an acceptable margin of error.

No clue how you would try to test for this assumption.

I agree with this. I usually swim most mornings at 6AM. It's been the one natural thing that has given me some control over my gift. Low doses of Depakote seem to help as well, but at the cost of morning 'fuzz' and the lack of all the yacking that used to go on in my head later in the day. A mix of both will probably do the trick for me.

My laptop was stolen, but DropBox is running, and I have the IP. Is there any interesting social hacking I can do? by babycastlesin AskReddit

[–]kordless 1 point2 points ago*

I had a laptop stolen. I ended up with the phone number of the suspect because he dialed into my ISP (I owned it) once he got it home. I gave the number to the police AND had collaborating evidence from my building's landlord that the guy was one of the cleaners for the office. The police in OKC still did nothing about it. :(

I'd suggest the following:

  1. leave your dropbox account and the laptop active. make a backup of all your dropbox files on another computer then remove all the files from dropbox. this protects your privacy and encourages the perp to click what is left.
  2. create an applescript program that is compiled which runs a bash script below. name it something enticing and put a nice icon on it. have it load a picture or something when you run it.
  3. create a bash script which uses '/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework/Versions/A/Resources/airport -I' to output the mac address/SSID of the perp's router. maybe someone can provide a call to output this to pastebin?
  4. put the applescript, the bash script and the image in your dropbox account. name it something neutral like 'slideshow'.
  5. hope the perp clicks it.
  6. use a network sniffer to drive around until you find the SSID/mac address.

From my experience you have one shot at making this work. Chances are if the guy get's suspicious, he'll wipe the box.

Found an iPad 2 at Goodwill New in Box. 32 gig, wifi for $65. Can't believe it! by djrjrin apple

Designation as a non-profit and an intent to make money are not related in the United States. Got that from Wikipedia.

The non-profit isn't really owned by any entity other than itself and is usually governed by a board. They can make money, and pay taxes.

Goodwill made $4B last year. The CEO's salary may be high, but he is in charge of a very large organization and his salary is paltry when compared to their revenues.

Just ask for it. You'll get 2-3 weeks of vacation per year with most startups. Just borrow against it. If they don't let you take it, quit. Life is too short dude. Don't let people abuse your brain.

Transparent Website Monitoring Software by gsp530in sysadmin

[–]kordless 1 point2 points ago

Specifically, run a reverse proxy in verbose mode and stuff all the logs it generates into Splunk. You should then be able to search on user/IP/site given that data is in the event stream.

Remember that you are required by law to protect your employee's/user's privacy, and you should ensure the system you set up for this meets certain guidelines for security.

Be careful. Laws technically state you can monitor an employee's internet usage, but you must do it for valid reasons. Productivity loss is included, but just wanting to know to know is not.

Have an idea, capital but no technical experience, What to do? by Kraxonatorin startups

[–]kordless 0 points1 point ago

What skills do you bring to the table? If you know how to run a business, raise money (or have it), can build a sales team, do the marketing, design, and all the other little BS things that are required to start, promote, and sell a product, then you should just go out and find a technical person to help you.

If you don't do all these other little things, and all you have is an idea and money, you are an investor and should act like one.

I have written a basic chat application using node.js, what do you guys think? by serkanyersenin javascript

I was thinking the other day that it would be somewhat useful to proxy the chat for SMS users. Give them some way to map their phone number to their chatroom name and forward to them via SMS if they weren't connected.

Can somebody advise me how to resolve this error? by TheDark1in web_design

[–]kordless -1 points0 points ago

Not helpful. A cursory inspection of the DNS records shows that www.yanchengrugby.com is a CNAME of usns12.7itt.com, the same as www.yanchengrugby.com. Also, there is no ftp subdomain on that domain.

The error isn't necessaraly being caused by the credentials. Here's the Microsoft support page for that error: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/200475

Way to centralize Windows event log viewing? by spiralsmurfWindows Adminin sysadmin

[–]kordless 4 points5 points ago

Use Snare (http://www.intersectalliance.com/projects/BackLogNT/) to ship them off to a centralized syslog server you set up or a service like Loggly. Solarwinds also writes a syslog server for Windows, which could be used instead of a Linux based syslog destination.
